Established in 1994, Ushijima Architects, Inc. (UAI) has been providing the highest quality of professional planning and design services for various projects throughout the State of Hawaii. Headquartered in Honolulu, the self-certified, 100% minority-owned small business has planned, designed, and managed hundreds of projects for dozens of federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as developers, contractors, private property owners, businesses, and individuals.
With an emphasis on building lasting relationships with its clients, UAI provides a full spectrum of planning and design services — from feasibility studies, due diligence reports, and programming studies, to master plans and complete architectural design services. Construction-related services provided by the firm include construction administration, project management, and project cost estimating. UAI’s project portfolio includes commercial and industrial facilities, educational institutions, dormitories, public housing, luxury resort condominiums, retail interior tenant improvements, and private residences.
The firm employs a highly-experienced staff of ten, plus four additional on-call staff. The firm’s full-time staff includes four Hawaii-registered architects, one of whom is a LEED® Accredited Professional. UAI’s staff members have a combined 140+ years of technical experience. UAI’s excellent track record of maintaining project schedules and meeting project submittal deadlines is attributed in part to having this additional capacity when necessary. This has also been accomplished on projects which involved the coordination of a multitude of disciplines, multi-firm teams of design consultants, and various client review entities.
UAI prides itself in the quality of the firm’s construction documents. Through developing and maintaining a highly-effective Quality Control Program (QCP), UAI’s clients have enjoyed a minimal amount of change orders during their projects. Utilizing the QCP, UAI’s final documents and specifications are clear, concise, and contain minimal errors or omissions.
