Ushijima Architects, Inc. was selected by the Department of Education (DOE) to design and build a new girls athletic locker room for Kaimuki High School. The 5,000 SF, single-story structure will be equipped with lockers and changing areas, toilet rooms, shower areas, storage, laundry area, training room, offices, and other support spaces. The project will comply with Title IX gender equity requirements and be equitable or better than the current Boys Athletic Locker Room.
The building will be constructed of exterior load bearing masonry walls with slab on grade and the roof to be constructed of heavy timber or steel roof framing. Although this project will not pursue LEED certification, sustainable design strategies and practices such as Energy Modeling, Daylighting Analysis, and Construction Waste Management Specifications are to be provided.
