Ushijima Architects, Inc. (UAI) was contracted by Pentagon Federal Credit Union to provide design and construction administration services for improvements to a 4,225 s.f. single-story building (Building 63) formerly occupied by the NAVFAC Federal Credit Union.
Exterior improvements included a new ATM and signage; new windows to bring in natural sunlight; and a new trellis. Interior improvements included new offices for the branch manager, operations officer, PenFed Invest, mortgage loan officer, and PenFed Realty; renovations to the existing restrooms; and upgrades to the lunchroom. The data/IT room, vault area, and safety deposit room received minimal improvements. Branch improvements included one BSR POD; a universal rep/teller line with cash recycler; lounge; coffee bar; interactive TV; and greeter station.
UAI collaborated with various PenFed personnel across the country to ensure that national brand standards were met while also modifying the design to appeal to local customers. Due to the location of the project, coordination with NAVFAC Hawaii was also required. UAI worked closely with the General Contractor throughout construction to ensure proper phasing of the project allowed for minimal disruption to the branch operations.
