Ushijima Architects, Inc. (UAI) was hired by Aramark, Chaminade University’s food service provider, to renovate the existing Tredtin Hall Dining and Servery into the new Silversword Café.

Prompted by a flood in 2019, renovations for the café went underway during the 2022 summer. The 3,200 s.f. renovation involves improvements to the dining hall plus an additional 800 s.f. of improvements to the existing server area. Both areas received new walls, floors, and ceiling finishes throughout. New dining hall furniture, custom casework, layouts and food service equipment were also provided.

UAI worked closely with the University’s Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students to create a modern, minimalist look inspired by the students through focus groups conducted by Chaminade. The café was kept operational throughout the renovations by setting up a temporary serving station and wall to block off the construction being done to the kitchen. The revamped Silversword Café fully reopened to the campus in the beginning of January 2023.
