In 2013, Ushijima Architects, Inc. (UAI) was retained by Chaminade University of Honolulu and Aramark Enterprises to collaborate with Massachusetts-based Core Concepts to demolish the existing food service facility located in Henry Hall and design a new 581 s.f. P.O.D. (Provisions on Demand) Market for the students and faculty of Chaminade University. The new market allows students and faculty to purchase hot and cold food, beverage items, toiletries, and other sundries that are normally sold at convenience stores.
Because a food service facility needs to be in operation in the central area of campus during the fall and spring semesters, the University was willing to defer construction of the project to the summer of 2014. However, UAI successfully collaborated with Core Concepts and was able to complete the design of the new facility and obtain the building permit in time for the facility to be operational at the start of the 2013 fall semester.
Procurement of the General Contractor for the project was through a design-assist method which allowed the project to be expedited with schedules and costs being updated weekly.
Status: Completed in 2013
