Ushijima Architects, Inc. (UAI) was hired by local architectural firm Sueda and Associates to provide its expertise in design development and construction documentation to coordinate the completion of a New Mercedes-Benz Showroom and Office Building in Kahului, Maui.
UAI worked with Sueda and Associates to properly site both buildings on the existing two and a half acre site. The schematic building design was adjusted to provide maximum efficiency for the new site. The layout, which addressed vehicular circulation, parking requirements, landscape requirements, trash location, and car service location, also maximized the frontage for the new car dealership and created a buffer between the two new structures.
The new single-story dealership consists of a large showroom area with glass façade; a lounge area immediately adjacent to the reception area; a four-car service area complete with hydraulic jacks; restroom, locker, and shower facilities buffering the showroom and service area; and various offices and closing rooms.
The new office building was solely designed for the exterior shell, with all interior spaces left as loft space for individual tenant responsibility improvements. The building includes an electric traction elevator to service the two floors, electrical and telephone/data rooms, and an entry lobby.
